Animated GIF
The main focus of my GIF animation was to demonstrate a disruption in the typical expectations one has for a GIF. In creating this project I was inspired by Cheryl Hann’s article, The Eternal Insanity of GIF Loops and Why We Love It. Through this publication Hann suggests that GIFs give the viewer a momentary influx of information, which we make sense of through visual imagery. This pushed me to question what would happen if there was a piece of information missing from a Gif, and how this impacts how the audience perceives it. As such, my GIF disrupts expectations by removing the identity of the sole subject in the animation. Moreover, it is intended to challenge the audience to make sense of the action being portrayed without having all of the information in front of them.
